A great solution for sticking bricks would be a rapid-setting adhesive.Next use tile spacers to space the bricks out with your desired spacing and remember to start from the bottom of the surface working your way up.Finally, once the bricks are placed and the adhesive is set you can use a mortar-pointing gun to fill in the spaces between the bricks with mortar for a traditional brick wall finish. For more information on getting your brick slips or tools please contact us on 01159208208Now you should have all the information you need to get started on your brick slip project...
16 Feb Why hire a skip in winter?
Dhruv 0 650
Many homeowners and businesses may miss the benefits of hiring a skip during the winter months. However, choosing to hire a skip in the winter can provide various advantages over the summer, which include weather considerations and project efficiency. In this blog, we'll look at why hiring a skip in the winter can make more sense for you.Time and Cost Getting a skip during the winter can save you a lot of time and money. Winter's reduced daylight hours and variable weather conditions can impair waste disposal activities, resulting in delays and increased labour expenses. Having a skip on-site eliminates time-consuming journeys to disposal sites, allowing for more efficient use of resources and workers. Furthermore, skips come in a variety of sizes, allowing you to select the one that best meets the unique needs of your project, reducing extra costs associated with huge containers or repeated journeys.Convenience and AccessibilityWinter is frequently associated with increased indoor activities and renovating projects, such as house refurbishments or office upgrades. These projects produce a lot of waste, which must be removed quickly and efficiently. Hiring a skip during the winter provides a simple and accessible method for disposing of rubbish, eliminating the need for several visits to local waste disposal or recycling centres. With a skip on-site, waste can be disposed of quickly, reducing delays and keeping the project on track, especially during winter weather.Environmental BenefitsEffective waste management is critical for reducing environmental impact and achieving sustainability. Hiring a skip allows for correct waste separation and disposal, ensuring that materials are recycled, reused, or disposed of ethically. Having a skip on-site encourages efficient waste management practices during the winter, when outside circumstances may be less suitable for human sorting and disposal. This reduces the danger of contamination and pollution. You can help the environment if you rent a skip in the cooler months, while also successfully managing waste generated during winter activities and projects.Resisting harsh weather Winter weather including rain, snow, and ice, may interfere with waste removal. The main task is preventing the Skip from filling up with water. Why? To prevent your skip from filling with water. Rain can quickly gather and add weight to inert rubbish such as cement concrete, glass, plaster and soil. To prevent your skip from being exposed to rain and snow, cover it with a tarpaulin or hire an enclosed skip. How much is skip hire?*prices shown above are accurate as of 16/02/2024 and may be subject to changeThis cost guide will help you understand the costs of hiring a skip. 12 Feb Timber Fencing: Types and Treatments
Harvey 0 9389
Overlap Panel:When it comes to garden fencing, the overlap panel, also known as the waney panel, reigns supreme and is the go-to choice for many in the UK. Crafted with horizontally fixed waney-edge boards, this panel boasts a rustic allure thanks to its sawn inclusion of the tree's bark, resulting in a distinctive wavy edge. For those seeking a more contemporary look, straight-edge boards are available at a slight premium, offering a uniform and modern appearance.Closeboard Fencing: For a robust upgrade from standard overlap fencing, consider closeboard fence panels. These panels feature thicker feather edge boards vertically mounted onto supporting horizontal rails. Each board overlaps the next, enhancing both strength and privacy, often framed around its perimeter for added durability. Feather edge boards, tapered from 10 - 13mm to 6 - 8mm, are individually replaceable, ensuring longevity and ease of maintenance.Slatted Garden Fence Panels:Embrace modernity with slatted garden fence panels, a sleek option for revamping any outdoor space. Horizontal wooden slats spaced apart create a contemporary aesthetic, ideal for screening or partitioning specific areas. Opt for a double slatted design for increased privacy, while the open structure allows wind to pass through, reducing movement and potential damage, thereby enhancing longevity.Decorative Garden Fence Panels: In compact gardens where privacy takes a back seat, decorative fence panels offer a myriad of options to demarcate boundaries while maintaining visual openness. From traditional picket or pale fence panels to trellis and lattice screens, the choices are abundant. Trellis panels, perfect for low-level boundaries or adding decorative flair atop existing fences or walls, can even serve as a canvas for climbing flowers or produce, marrying aesthetics with functionality.Main Fence Treatments Types Explained:Dip Treated Fencing: Dip treated panels undergo immersion in a wood preservative solution, providing surface protection against rot, fungi, and moisture. While many panels come with a guarantee, it's essential to re-treat them with a suitable coating every year or two to maintain effectiveness.Pressure Treated Wood: Undergoing a vacuum process, pressure treated panels have air replaced with a preservative treatment, penetrating deeper into the timber's cellular structure for long-term protection against fungal rot and decay. While pressure treated panels offer extended longevity compared to dip treated ones, occasional aftercare applications are still recommended to maximize their lifespan. Conclusion: Transform your garden into a haven of beauty and functionality with timber fencing. From the classic allure of overlap panels to the contemporary charm of slatted designs, there's a fencing style to suit every taste and requirement. By understanding the various types and treatments available, you can make an informed choice that not only enhances your outdoor space's aesthetic appeal but also ensures years of enjoyment and admiration...

20 Dec Keeping Your Driveway Ice Free This Winter
Harvey 0 4208
Winter can be a difficult time for homeowners, especially when it comes to keeping driveways and walkways clear of ice and snow. One of the most effective ways to prevent your driveway from freezing over is by using road rock salt, also known as deicing salt.t.Road Rock SaltRoad rock salt is a type of salt that is specifically designed to melt ice and snow on roads, driveways, and sidewalks. It works by lowering the freezing point of water, which means that even at very low temperatures, the salt will melt the ice and snow on contact. This makes it an ideal product to use during the winter months to keep your driveway clear and safe to walk on.One of the most important things to consider when using road rock salt on your driveway is to use it in the correct amount. Overusing salt can damage the surface of your driveway and also harm the surrounding environment. It is recommended to use about 3 pounds of salt per square meter of the driveway. Remember to apply the rock salt when the temperature is above -9.4°c anything lower than this and rock salt might not be that useful. In addition to using road rock salt and grit, there are also a few other things you can do to help prevent your driveway from freezing over during the winter months. We offer a range of Winter Essentials HereClear your DrivewayFirstly, it's important to keep the surface of your driveway as clean as possible. This means removing any debris or leaves that may have accumulated during the fall. This will make it easier for the salt and grit to adhere to the surface and be more effective in preventing ice from forming. A perfect tool for this would be a pressure washer or a leave blower depending on how wet your driveway is. You can check out our video on how to pressure-wash a driveway hereHow to Stop Sheet Ice From FormingSecondly, make sure that your driveway is properly graded and sloped. This will help to prevent water from pooling on the surface and freezing over. it also helps to have a grate that gives the water a path to flow down to stop further flooding of your driveway. And finally, it's a good idea to invest in a snow shovel and ice scraper to help you clear your driveway quickly and easily. If you are experiencing heavy snow you will find that it can easily settle on gritted driveways, so make sure you have a good-quality snow shovel to prepare for it.In conclusion, to keep your driveway from freezing over during the winter, it's important to use products such as road rock salt and grit. These products will help to melt ice and snow on contact and provide extra traction on the surface. Additionally, it's important to keep the surface of your driveway clean, properly graded and sloped, and to invest in a snow shovel and ice scraper to help you clear it quickly and easily...

16 Nov Which Side of the Fence is Mine?
Dhruv 0 2564
Has your fence blown over by the storm? Who is in charge of repairing a broken fence? Do you know where your fence or property line is? By law which side of the fence is mine? Using our handy guide, you can find out which fence is yours. How can I find out which side of the fence is mine?Anything you've heard about "left-hand" or "right-hand" rules is a myth, as they don't exist. The most commonly used method to determine who owns what side of the fence is to check the Title Plan or Land Registry. The T mark on the plan is used to show who owns the boundary and who is responsible for its maintenance. What if I can't find the paperwork? If you did not receive a copy of the paperwork when you purchased the house, don't panic; you can request documentation online through the HM Land Registry website. On this site, you can also find out if the property or land in question is registered (it generally is) and get a copy of the title register and title plan, which should show the borders of your property. Can I identify who owns the fence just by looking? The location of the rails on a fence can reveal who owns it, with the fence often facing away from their property so that their neighbour gets the 'good' side of the fence. Because there are no rails for someone to use to climb into your garden, this is the most secure type of facing fencing. This is then repeated with the neighbour on the opposite side to guarantee that each home has a 'good' and a 'poor' fence. This is only sometimes the case, so double-checking legal paperwork is always a good idea.Talk to your neighbourIn most cases, simply talking to your neighbours about who owns what and who is responsible for maintaining boundaries would be enough. Neighbours frequently agree to share responsibility for shared boundaries. The Land Registry website contains a wealth of information on this subject. You and your neighbour might reach a boundary agreement. This will formally record everything and save future owners the headache of potential fencing disputes. Your local council's planning department should be your next point of contact, and if all else fails, seek legal assistance from a solicitor to resolve the matter.Do you need to replace your fencing? If you need to replace your boundary fencing, we provide an extensive selection of high-quality fence panels. Our selection of fence panels, fence posts, and fence repair materials can be picked up at your nearest Frank Key branch or ordered online for home delivery...
25 Oct How to Bleed a Radiator
Dhruv 0 1493
How to Bleed a RadiatorIf your radiators aren't heating up properly or are chilly at the top and warm at the bottom, they may need bleeding. This will allow hot water to circulate through your heating  system once more. Bleeding radiators once in a while will keep them running efficiently. That means not just a warmer home, but also lower energy bills!Although it may appear intimidating, bleeding your radiator is a quick and easy job that you can do yourself. To help you, Frank Key has created a video and step-by-step guide on how to bleed a radiator. What is it to Bleed a Radiator?Bleeding a radiator is essential for removing any excess or trapped air from the heating system. When air builds up within the system, it obstructs the flow of hot water, limiting its reach to only halfway within the radiator. This failure leads to cold areas in your house or you wondering why a room feels a bit cold.Bleeding a radiator lets the trapped air out and instantly improves the efficiency of your heating system and makes your home a little cosier. How to bleed a radiator - Step by stepStep 1: Make sure your central heating and hot water are turned off at the boiler and the radiator has cooled down. If you attempt to bleed your radiators while they are still warm, you risk spraying boiling water everywhere.Step 2: Using a radiator key, you can now release the trapped air. Insert your radiator bleed key and turn it anti-clockwise to slightly open the radiator bleed valve without removing it (a hissing sound will be heard).Step 3: Water will begin to come up through the hole once the air is gone, quickly turn the key clockwise to re-tighten the valve.Step 4: Turn on your heating system and touch the top of the radiators to see if they are heating up properly.Step 5: Check the pressure gauge on the front of your boiler after you've bled your radiators. The boiler pressure should be between 1.0 and 1.5 bars. If it's less, you'll need to top up your boiler pressure. FAQWhat tools do I need to bleed a radiator? The only tools you need are a radiator bleed key and it is advised that you use a towel or a jug to catch any excess water. How do I bleed a radiator without a key?To bleed a radiator without a key, use a flathead screwdriver. Insert the flat head into the bleed valve's notches and turn anticlockwise to open the valve and clockwise to close it.How do I know if my radiator needs bleeding? An easy way to tell if your heating system needs bleeding is if your radiators have cold patches at the top but are warm at the bottom.  Other typical signs include the radiator taking longer than usual to heat up or making grumbling noises.Do you bleed radiators hot or cold?Always make sure your boiler is turned off and the radiators are cool before attempting to bleed them. When turned on, the hot water in the radiator has the risk of scalding you.How long does it take to bleed a radiator?Bleeding a radiator is a quick procedure - roughly 30 seconds, depending on the size of the radiator and how much air is trapped inside. ..
