A small bathroom can be inconvenient, and even worse, make you feel cramped and claustrophobic every time you enter it. Along with feeling cramped, there is also the day-to-day stress of using the bathroom. Whilst it may seem like you are the only one with a small bathroom, it is, in fact, a national problem with the average bathroom being a little bit bigger than a king-sized bed!

As many of you are faced with this national problem, we’ve decided to compile a list of the top 5 ways that will help your bathroom look and feel bigger:

1. Choose a shower

For smaller bathrooms, a bath can take up a lot of space that can be utilised for something else more useful. Ask yourself this: do you really need a bath when a shower can provide you with extra space and clean you just as well? Or better still, do you really need a shower in the smaller bathroom if you already have 2 bathrooms?

A bath can usually take up a lot of space and it will be hard to reclaim. However, a shower can take a lot less space.

2.  Fitted furniture

Finding how to store the furniture and fittings in the bathroom can feel like a puzzle, especially when you don’t know where to start. However, it doesn’t need to be.

Using fitted furniture in the bathroom not only gives storage space but also allows space to be saved compared to free-standing, often bulky, furniture.

Where possible try using fitted furniture which can hug the wall as well as taking advantage of any gaps in the wall which cannot be filled with standard furniture.

3. Mirrors

Mirrors are a perfect way to provide finishing touches to a room. They are also useful in more confined spaces as they give the illusion of the room being larger than it actually is.

The reason that mirrors make the room look bigger is because of the illusion of depth that they provide.  They can help reflect light to darker areas of the room that will make it seem bigger.

Choosing an attractive and eye-catching mirror will draw the eyes and increase the depth of the perception.

4. Install a Vertical Radiator

Vertical radiators may seem odd or out of place but if the right style and shape are chosen, it can make a small bathroom look modern.

As the name suggests, these radiators are stored vertically and not horizontally. This saves space as in a small bathroom there won’t be enough space on the walls for horizontal radiators; especially considering when other pieces of furniture are added. A vertical radiator makes use of the upper parts of the walls which are usually left empty.

Get Some Space!

Making your small bathroom look bigger is possible. It is about being minimalist and critical to what is needed and what isn’t in a bathroom. Using mirrors and fitted furniture can make the room feel bigger but if it is packed with unnecessary items like an oversized vanity or a bath, it will always look small.

Turning a small bathroom into one that is functional and stylish is about looking for opportunities to make every inch of the space work for you.
