With Christmas behind us, nows a great time to tackle some of the odd jobs around the home to start the new year right.

In this article, we’ll share a few simple DIY tips you can use to improve your home for the new year.

1. Grout cleaning with toilet cleaner

It may seem unconventional, but everyday toilet cleaner makes for fantastic grout cleaner. Apply the toilet cleaner to the grout and leave for 15 mins. Scrub with clean to remove the dirt. Finally, wipe the area with warm water and leave to dry.

Make sure to check whether your cleaner is suitable to use, as some chemicals can be too harsh to use with grout.

2. Cleaning your shower head with vinegar

Over long periods of use, the minerals in the water will form deposits on your shower head. Over time this could lead to obstructed water flow which results in some nozzles ejecting water and others blocked. Vinegar helps break down the mineral deposit and allow it to water to exit the nozzles freely.

To do this, fill a watertight bag with vinegar and then attach the bag with an elastic bag to the shower head. Leave for 30 minutes and then clean the shower head with warm water.

3. Remove dents in your carpets

Carpets dents are usually caused by furniture pressing hard on a piece of carpet leaving a dent.

This damage can be reversed by placing an ice cube on the area and after it has melted using a hard brush to fluff up the area.

4. Repair dents in the wood with a hot iron and cloth

Similar to the tip, wooden floors are prone to becoming dented when a heavy objects press against them for a long period of time.

To remove dents, place a damp cloth over the affected area. Then with an iron, go over it in circular motions checking regularly to see if the wood has been repaired.

5. Patch small nail holes with soap

Nail holes can often be a messy and time-consuming job to patch using plaster. With a bar of soap, it can be a relatively quick and simple task. Simply purchase a bar that is similar in colour to your wall and rub the soap on the affected area. Remember this will only work on small nail holes.
